The Heineken experience is located in Amsterdam , the Netherlands and was opened in 1991. It is one of the historic brewery and corporate visitor center for one an only international distributed Dutch pilsner, Henikan Beer.
In 1991, the brewery opened for public as a guide tour and visitor center, also known as “Henikan Treat and Information Center”.
The building has been listed on the national heritage list since 14 April 1993.
History of the Heineken Experience
The history of the Heineken Experience dates back to 1864 when Jacob van Lennep founded the first brewery in Amsterdam. In 1876, his son-in-law Gerard Adriaan Heineken took over the company. After World War II, the brewery expanded its production capacity. In 1950, it became part of the Heineken International group.
Visitor centre
The Heineken Experience is located at the former location of the Van Lennep Brewery. In 1991, the brewery closed down and the building was bought by the Heineken Group. The building was renovated into a museum and visitor center. The building is now owned by the Heineken International Group.
The museum is divided into three sections:
- History of the Heineken Company: This section shows how the Heineken beer came to be.
- The Heineken Family: This section shows the family tree of the Heineken family.
- The Heineken Brand: This section shows the history of the brand Heineken.

Where is the original Heineken Brewery Located?
The original brewery was founded in 1873 by Jules Heijn and his son-in-law Jan van den Bosch. The first beer produced was a pale lager called “Heineken” after the founder of the company. In 1876 they started to bottle their beer for sale.
In 1879, the first bottling plant opened in Amsterdam. By 1890, there were already over 1 million cases of Heineken sold each year.
In 1899, the Heineken family bought the brewery from Van den Bosch. In 1902, the company became public and the current logo was created.
Today, the Heineken Brewery produces about 2.8 billion litres of beer annually.
